Boarding is done before one pirate ship takes over another pirate ship. Boarding would be going onto the other (opposition) ship.

I would have to say, the more accurate term for one pirate ship taking over another pirate ship is comandeering.

Because comandeer means to take or seize by force.

commander works..also, good old fashion capture, or take....
privateers were private ships given permission by their governments ( a "letter of marque") to attack enemy shipping....they were frequently worded " take, burn, capture, destroy, or annoy the enemy"......
