Will my previous job at least be able to provide the number of years I have worked there or just that I was an employee?

Most companies will only verify hire date, termination date, and job title. Salary verification is usually provided only with additional consent from the current/former employee. Companies who provide additional information open themselves up to potential lawsuits. This is why most employers have a policy forbidding individual employees from providing employment verifications, and inquiries are instead passed on to centralized sources like Human Resources. Even if employers follow the "Don't say anything if you don't have anything nice to say" rule, this can still cause problems because, in that case, NOT saying anything is essentially providing a negative reference.

They usually only verify dates of employ. Unless you were a great employee they might say good things about you, but usually what they don't say could hurt you.

It's is kinda understood that "If you don't have something nice to say don't say anything", and prospective employers understand that as well, if they say nothing you might not be a good catch so to speak.

Companies won't say anything because of the lawsuits that follow with really bad comments about previous employees.

the things they should be allowed to get are dates of employment, and if they would hire you back or not that's all,but most people know each other so your reputation does follow you so do your best to not get a bad one,and I'm not sure about them being able to find out about unemployment

Yes, they can provide how long you worked there and what position you were in. Most likely they will stop at that.

They are limited on the amount of information that they can share but they will be able to tell how long you were employed and if you are eligible for rehire.
