Fable. Although the gameplay was somewhat linear, you were still free to do as you wished and the game was just great. The graphics were excellent, at least on the console and took full advantage of the power of the Xbox. I can hardly wait until Fable 2 comes out on the Xbox 360 (maybe another year or two?)

Xenogears will always stand as the RPG with the most complicated and comprehensive story, ever. I loved it. Most found it long, boring and action-less.

Secret of Mana had the story and the action.

Final Fantasy IV was amazing in both story and gameplay.

Most recently, Final Fantasy 12! Hehe.

Sorry but no RPG will ever come close to the brilliance that is Final Fantasy VII.
