for $155,401? They say that there is only one other known copy and it is in a private collection. What an amazing story!

Turned out to be a hoax, kinda makes ya think it was all to draw attention to it worldwide.

The only other copy of this demo is owned by Moe Tucker.

Dr. Rock
The new owner will not be able to re-release the music, which is protected by copyright.

"By around 11:30 p.m. ET Friday, the auction's closing, the winning bid seemed to be $155,401 (U.S.) from a buyer called "mechadaddy" apparently living in the Los Angeles area. On the weekend Saturn received an e-mail from the supposed winner who said a friend, unbeknownst to him, had, as a lark, bid on the acetate using his (the supposed winner's) computer at work and account number. "Ohmigod, I'm so sorry," the e-mail read in part. "I can barely afford gas for my car" let alone more than $150,000 for a 40-year-old disc of acetone-covered aluminum.
Asked what's next for the acetate, Hill said "there's a couple of different things that might happen," but he refused to specify what they are. One possibility might be to find -- or at least try to find -- a legitimate under-bidder among the 200-plus individuals who posted offers online. Another might be to sell the acetate at a live auction, possibly at one of the more reputable record conventions in the U.S." http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/story/LAC.20061211.UNDERGROUND11/TPStory

Yea, I posted a question about it not too long ago, check it out.
I would buy it if I had that kind of dough lyin' around and I was totally buzzed up. But if I had that money, I would be buying something more than an album, even if it is VU.

I read that! It is superb. I would like for those early versions to become available. For me, the one that is most exciting to read about is the song Heroin, which is such an exhilarating listen. I would enjoy hearing it before the band decided the final sound for it. Let us hope the management of Lou Reed takes steps to get the early songs made available for the public!

Read the news though: The high bidder who won the bid at $155,401 backed out. That's pretty stupid, because if they reissued that record, you'd make all of that money back (if not more) and have a priceless record that you got virtually for free.
