No. Have you ever seen the houses they live in and cars they drive? They don't appear like exploited people to me. It goes for all genres and artists, not just musicians.

Yes. It has nothing to do with race. It's not a black thing, it's not a white thing, it's a green thing. Musicians are exploited because they are the cash cow. They are making allot of people rich, and they will ring every dime there is to be made. After their fifteen minutes are up, there's always another one coming along. All about the money.

EXPLOIT --- 1) To employ to the greatest possible advantage: exploit one's talents. 2) To make use of selfishly or unethically: a country that exploited peasant labor. 3) To advertise; promote.

If you mean, exploited by a record label... #1) I think most musicians WANT to be exploited (under 2 of the 3 given definitions of the word). To be exploited would mean that they're getting mass exposure. Even if they're sorta getting ripped off, they still stand a far greater chance of making big bucks if their exposure level is very high. #2) I don't believe exploitation of "talent" in the music biz has much (if anything) to do with race, just as it has nothing to do with music. Labels want to push PRODUCT to make PROFIT. If they knew a way to sell you BLANK CDs (with NO ARTIST at all) for $15 a pop, they'd be happy to do it for you. (Look at Coke and Dasani water; All these years they've been mixing in their secret chemicals to sell Coke to you for a buck a bottle and someone got the bright idea of putting NOTHING in the water and selling that for a buck! Same story... And, believe me, if Coke could sell you the EMPTY plastic bottle for a buck, they would. It's exactly the same in the music biz.) Besides... Many of the labels hyping rap ---probably MOST of 'em--- are Black-owned or Black-run businesses. And the rappers ---like most other music biz folk--- are trippin' all over themselves to be "exploited". And it's basically the same in other genres. Any idea what a classical violinist gets to make a record with an orchestra? I don't know myself, but I'd wager it's peanuts compared to what even small-time rappers are pullin' down. The label OWNERS make the bread, ask Diddy, Suge, Master P, Babyface... Just like the owners in the NBA... Not one owner ---NOT ONE--- would trade places with a player. Same in the music world...

It depends on whether they are contrived musicians, authentic musicians, or just real poor artists. There is a huge difference.

The same can be said of any writer or any other artist. Buy from the ones that are authentic and new, and our culture will be nurtured.

(Music, like art and science, is universal. Race is irrelevant. Race is only important for politics.)

I don't feel one way or another about any musician (being one of sorts myself)
People make their own choices. You only let people take advantage of you if you allow it.
