I plan to breastfeed my son as long as possible. But at the seventh month, my milk ran dry. The first time I prepare him formula, I felt like I'm getting him poison. Will his I.Q. be inferior that babies whose mothers breastfeed longer? I envied my friends who still breastfeed her sons now that he is one and half year old!
I'm now a bit depressed.

Your son will be OK! I promise you that it doesn't effect them that much. I breastfed my son until 7mos and he started walking at 9 mos and now at 12 mos he stacks blocks, says 10 words and knows where his ears, eyes, nose and mouth are. My best friend breastfed her son until he was one and I felt so guilty but they are at the same developmental pace so all is well. And you are a good mother just the same as another mom who breastfed for longer :) Good Luck and Feel Better

How did your milk run dry? Were you on medication? Did your son go on a "nursing strike?" Are you pregnant again?

Sadly this has happened to a couple of my friends recently. They take herbal supplements and eat lots of oatmeal and drink pleanty of water. They are both pregnant and very sad to have lost their milk.

If your baby will still latch, you can supplement him with formula at the breast with an SNS or Lact-Aid (google it please) Or, even better, see if your feinds that are nursing will pump for you and feed him that at your breast.

dont worry.... formula is made as close to breast milk as it can and you already breastfeed for 7 months... that gives your baby a great start. he will be just fine. many mothers wean their baby even before a year so its only a few months hes missing.

having fed your son for seven months is perfectly normal. Your baby is going to be fine. I was only able to feed my son for 3 months and i dried. my father was breastfed until he was 4 months and he was a vice-president in well known companies. Hold your baby, look into his eyes and talk to him as you feed him. since you have breastfed him, you will always have a strong bond with him. don't compare yourself to others.

I breastfed my first son and had to give my second son formula due to a health problem he had. There is absolutely no difference between my two children in their development or when they reached milestones.

please do not be so hard on yourself! The fact that you breastfed for 7 months is wonderful. You are not giving him poison via formula, mom, so lighten up. Personally I feel at 1 1/2 years of breastfeeding, your friend is going overboard. At that stage it is becoming too weird!
