are ppl notified when i add them to my list?

All you have to know is there Screen name and you can add them and they won't even know it
The cool thing about that, if you want to see if someone has blocked you on a certain name, then you can sign in with a different name and add their SN to your buddy list to see if it shows them online, which I always liked personally.
However, I usually don't add people that doesn't know I'm adding them...it just never appealed to me, because I have sooo many people on my list, like over 150 contacts, and its hard to keep up with who and who i don't know already.

Nope. with AIM you could add whoever you want and they would never know that you are viewing their away messages and everything.. :]] Kind of stalker-ish huh??
but its a different story with MSN. You have to get their approval to add them.. bummer.

You/they will get a confirmation message saying "Allow this user you add you to their Buddy list?"
