1. Petals from the flower ZuZu won at school -- they fell off and she said, "Paste it, Daddy." So he hides the petals in his pocket and tells her the flower is all better.

2. He's deaf in his left ear from where he fell in the ice saving his brother Harry when they were sledding. Young Mary Hatch, when she's having an ice cream at Gower's Drug Store (being served by George), leans over and asks, "Is this your bad ear?" When he doesn't reply, she whispers, "George Bailey, I'll love you till the day I die."

3. Bert and Ernie. The film gives no information on whether they like paperclips, marching bands, rubber duckies or tubas. (However, based on Bert's reaction to Violet Bick's figure as she saunters past -- played by the alluring and talented Gloria Grahame -- it's a safe assumption that there's no chance that THIS Bert and Ernie could be mistaken for a gay couple...)

4. Ward Bond (Bert the cop) was on "Wagon Train." He's also Father Lonegan in John Ford's classic, "The Quiet Man," starring John Wayne and Maureen O'Hara.

5. Uncle Billy, played by brilliant character actor Thomas Mitchell. Uncle Billy was always forgetful; in an earlier scene he displays a hand with string tied to every finger, to try to get him to remember different things. The implication is that they all failed. (There is some question about whether Uncle Billy drinks...)

6. Four -- Tommy, Petey, Janey and ZuZu.

7. "Hee-haw!" That would be Sam Wainwright, George's rival for the attentions of Mary Hatch (played, at this stage, by Donna Reed) in high school. Mary's mom was very impressed with Sam's go-get-'em attitude (which does eventually make him a financial success), but as we know from the touching scene in Mr. Gower's store, Mary only has eyes for George.

8. Gosh, do I have to pick JUST one? Here's something I'm always yelling at my cats, at least half in jest: "That's it! Out you two pixies go, t'rough the door or out the window!" (Spoken by Nick the Bartender, played by Sheldon Leonard -- later to achieve great success as the producer of the hit TV series "I Spy" starring a young Bill Cosby and Robert Culp -- when he throws George and Clarence out of the bar, in the "alternate universe" in which George Bailey was never born.) But there are so many...

Thanks! It's a wonderful movie!

Since the first 7 questions have been answered, I will only answer #8.

My favorite is the exchange between the man on the porch and George...

(Man on Porch): "Why don't you kiss her instead of talking her to death?"
(George): "You want me to kiss her, huh?"
(Man on Porch): "Ah, youth is wasted on the wrong people!"
