Find a Sales Associate that you like from one of your favorite makeup lines in a Department store (Nordstrom is excellent for this), and ask them to notify you of any events. I've attended a few fragrance events (dinner and speaker, followed by private shopping and special GWPs), as well as MAC trend shows and other events.

You can also just call or visit your local stores and ask if there are any upcoming events. Some stores also post their calendars on their websites.

sher is right. Nordstrom has GREAT makeup seminars. In fact a few years ago they had the Dior national artists there and I got a makeover from their head guy. I have never looked so good, I swear it looked like I had plastic surgery and became a model. It was crazy what they could do. The other place I'd recommend is Sephora. I live near one and they often have in-store events where they'll teach you about the different lines, etc. Plus sometimes you can get free facials there too. I hear they're going to start putting mini-Sephoras in JCPenney's too for all the people who don't live by them.
