i'm in IL so i know that theyre legal but i was wondering what the best one is. i have gotten many speeding tickets throughout the years in my mustang so i have decided i need to buy one.

The valentine 1 and the escort 8500 are the best ones out there.
I personally prefer the valentine because of its ability to determine the direction of the radar source. Be aware though, no radar detector can pick up everything. Instant-on Ka band radar and laser are very hard to give much if any advanced warning.

Valentine 1. Most modern detectors will detect laser too, but the laser beam is so tight that you usually get no warning even when you have been hit.

I would give up the idea of getting a radar detctor, they are coming out with a new type of gun. It uses laser and won't be detected by radar detectors.
