quite possibly becos it concerns the side of the brain which
is dominant. but in terms of real artists, it makes little difference.
talent is just talent.

yes, it is believed that left -handed people are better at drawing. This is because in order to learn how to draw, you need to learn how to see.You learn how to perceive what you see and record it on paper.

The left brain is more technical and controls other functions you tap into when you are learning math, science, and other academics. The right Brain learns through visual means and is called upon when you try to draw something. The reason why some people have trouble drawing (right-handed as well left-handed people) is because when they try to draw something, their left brain kicks in and tries to solve problem (the problem is representing the want to draw the certain object at that time) in quick and precise terms, and the right brain is overshadowed.

So coming back to the question, left-handed people have a greater chance of being more artistically-inclined because they use their right brain to do other functions that right-handed people may use their left brain for. And the right brain is more "artistically motivated" than the left brain, so to speak.

I suggest reading "Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain" by Betty Edwards, if you want to know more. it is an exceptional book!

There is some correlation, between the right side of the brain, which is more developed in left-handed people tends to control creative thinking and language, while the left brain is more attuned to mathematics, logic and spatial reasoning.
There are more left-handed people in the artistic professions, either because of talent or temperament. However, that doesn't mean a right-handed person can't be very talented as well.
To further complicated things, it is estimated a small percentage of the population actually have their brain polarities reversed, i.e. their left brain controls creativity and their right brain is the more logical side - these people are sometimes known as false righties or false lefties.
So just because you write with a certain hand, doesn't mean you'll be necessarily good at creative stuff, but being left-handed does increase your chances somewhat.

Hi:

Handedness may only add a little bit of help towards art or creativity. Chances are that you share at least a few attributes with your dad and sister. You can pretty much do anything you put your mind to, and if you are trying to pursue being able to draw, check out the book and additional materials "Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain". Maybe that will help you improve if you wish to. Hope this helps.

No I don't think that is true. I am left handed and was useless at art. I am now able to draw tigger and Winnie the pooh as long as I have the picture in front of me.I still can't draw people. You need to relax and not compare yourself to the rest of the family that can draw. You have your own talents which you need to concentrate on. Think about what they are and take your time perfecting them. Good luck.

10% of the world population are left handed.
The right side of the brain is used to control the left side and vice versa!
It is known that creativity is right brain function so the percentage of Artistic left-handers rises. Logic is left brain and the percentage of scientific left handers falls!
A talented right -handed person could be the Better Artist just as a scientifically minded left-hander could be a Better Scientist!
You may not be any good at art but neither is my left-handed sister!

that's very hard to prove and besides, to make such a generalisation as this is almost futile. for me it doesn't matter if you're left or right-handed: as long as you can draw, why should it matter how good or superior you really are in comparison to people who are left/right-handed and vice versa? alas, people are artistically gifted and/or have a talent for drawing regardless. there are not that many left-handed artists and people who do draw in their spare time or of whom are artists/designers themselves but those that can and who can do it really well, i commend their efforts. i am right-handed but i have been drawing since i was 10. some would say it is down to genetics and to do with the left or right ventricle of the brain- but for me, it is just the question of picking up a hobby or an activity like drawing, doing it, continue drawing and persevering with it, so their technique improves as a result

All of those "stories" about lefties are just coincedence. I know lefties with no creativity, and are worse then me at sports. The only benefit to being left handed in art is having an easier time drawing on the left side of the paper.

My friend said that was true and she is left handed but I'm right handed and I am the best artist in the class.

Am left handed and good at drawing (never have been taught drawing. It is more inspirational)....so is my wife....though that is not a good enough sample to conclude that all left handed folks are good at it....

If you want to draw, feel the situation, its smell, color, sound everything....most important, it should convey your thought implying that first you should have a thought worth telling a story about.

Not sure but that could be the reason why I stink at drawing...just one more thing to blame my parents for. "Well thanks to you I'm right handed and left handed people draw better than right handed people so there goes that profession out the door.Thanks...Thanks a lot!"
