I have a friend whose mom just passed away. The best I can do is call and offer comfort and support. Keep offering your support and love so they know you are there for them after everything has settled. The last thing they want to feel is alone in times like these.

well you hug and listen to her talk about her. say I didn't know her but I would be interested in seeing some pics and hearing about her. sometimes looking at pics and reminiscing and hearing about the deceased makes the living person feel better thru reliving good times. and you can be there they need validation of pain in the heart of the loss no more happy times but in the heart and thru pics and memories the good times still keep on going.

Less comfort words but provide more help for her to cope, I mean physical and emotional help and your time spent with that someone..

Just LISTEN; let THEM talk; you don't need to say much.. let them get their feelings out. Also give them a hug. Tell them you're there for them. Just be there; don't avoid them out of discomfort.

you hug them a lot, and you let them talk or cry or sit in silence as long as they need to.
