The Oscars are very political and involve a lot of factors. Pacino didn't get one until late in his career and for a bad movie. This was after he had performed brilliantly in Serpico, Sea of Love, The Godfather, Scarface and many others. So don't count on the actor getting one just because he was good.
However, I agree that Johnnie rules and that they should give him a rock.

Seriously!! Johnny Depp is one of the most talented actors of his generation. I liked him in pirates, but I REALLY LOVED him in finding neverland. That's where I was sold on Johnny Depp. But I think he'll get one eventually if he keeps taking challenging and interesting roles.

However well he acted (and he's a great, underrated actor), he'd never get an oscar nod for Pirates.
The Academy would never take that movie seriously.

He will get it some day. He definitely deserved it for "Finding Neverland"
This year the guys who truly deserve are Hugh Jackman (The Fountain) and Sean Penn(All the King's Men)

He DOES deserve an Oscar. IMO he's a great actor, and I respect him because he is different from the rest of Hollywood actors.
