whenever one says that something is the BEST it is subjective to their criteria. the best blank does not always correlate the best fit. my suggestion is first think of where you wanna be, what is financially feasible, where do you wanna spend the next few years of your life THEN begin to see what is available in that area. OR begin to see what schools have the type of professors/specific programs that turn you on. to me literature and learning is a see-saw, finding the proper balance of experience outside of the pages is just as important as getting fired up and feeling supported in the classroom. good luck sir.

It really depends on what TYPE of literature you're looking for. Different schools are better for different periods... Different professors have different strengths and weaknesses when it comes to theoretical approaches and genres... I would pick a period or genre first, then look around through journals or books and see which names keep popping up. Then look at what schools those people are at. That way you are more likely to go somewhere that is strong in your period.
