It's fashionable now to clash. Don't be afraid to use non-traditional colors or patterns/designs with a suit. The tie should be the attention-getter.

Lots of good answers on here. I would probably shy away from say, brown (maybe earth tones in general) or orange, but other than that, it's wide open. A blue or white shirt and blue tie would go well with gray. Personally though, my favorite look is a dark gray suit with a white, french cuffed shirt and a solid black tie. Pretty formal, and perhaps a bit plain. I guess I like it because it makes me think of like, old school James Bond stuff - all the better for someone who write "colour" and not "color". (; A lot of it depends on the occasion, though. Are you trying to pick something for say, a job interview? If so, you can't go wrong with a white shirt and a red, blue, or black tie. Those are safe, traditional colors and it's hard not to look good in them.

You could try a white shirt and a navy tie. Shirts....with a gray you could wear lots of different colors just depending on how much you want it to stand out.

It depends on what looks nice on you, I would try a dark red or burgandy, and deep blues look nice. Even a purple, or mauve color.
