Night is caused by the Earth coming between the sun's focus and the outer extreme. Day and night alternate because of the axial motion of the Earth V 35, Ch 1, P 585, Bk of Cosmogeny and Prophecy.

An odd answer for a couple of reasons. Earth cannot come "between" anything and the "outer extreme," whatever that means. Earth covers less than 1 billionth of the the sky from the Sun.

Also, the Sun is a reall object, not an image, so the sun's focus has no physical meaning.

The night is simply the Earth's shadow.

Well, you answered your own question, and correctly too. So why bother to post it? I don't know about that Prophecy thing though.
