I agree. There is nothing good about smoking and as a non-smoker it drives me nuts when I have to breathe it in. My boss for example smokes in the office, but it's a small law firm and I very well cannot go call a lawyer. My husband and I need me to have this job so right now I am stuck because I need the paycheck and cannot call the state because he would know it was me.
In the public I have been known (much to my husbands embarassment!) to inform people who smoke in front of doors outside their business which I am trying to enter that if they want to poison themselves, to do it elsewhere. I have also spoken with the store manager to keep employees from smoking where I have to walk to enter a store or business. Many times the business will make employees smoke in other area's such as the other side of the building so you do not have to breathe it in.
If all else fails.....move the ash can yourself....I have, and now employees at Stop & Shop don't smoke where I walk.

I really would love to see it ban. It kills people! Makes others sick...there is nothing positive about smoking and people who smoke just do not understand how nasty it is and how the rest of us suffer because of them....

I will get off my soap box now....I just really HATE smoking and having to breathe it in because other people have no regard for others, the environment and themselves!

Because the local, state and federal government is making a killing on the taxes it charges smokers and all with out benefit of representation and before you ask No I do not smoke but I do believe in freedom of choice for adults and fair and equal rights for everyone and I will say when this plays out they will find someone else to abuse and allow to be discriminated against all so they can collect more tax dollars in the name of public good

The power of money, is like petroleum, here are many ideas to make cars with engines that don't need petroleum like electric engines, natural gas, etc, but the big shots behind the petroleum manager make it impossible to develop this sane industry for a cleaner air.

It makes money.
Since it's popular and pays for some taxes, smoking is legal.
Going to the emergency room and getting heart problems, buying cigarettes, all positively contributes to other things like taxes, governments, and schools.

It's actually really stupid.

Tobacco is one of the largest sources of business, vice, and sales tax. Tobacco keeps the country running like it always has.

$$$$ is the problem ,Think about it- tobbaco farmers out of buisnees, trucking companys out of buisness, farm workers out of work, the list goes on and on so you look at smokers ,now look at drunk drivers how many people are killed by drunk drivers you going to ban alcohol,no i dont think so.One other thing to ponder could it be that there is a cure for cancer but it wont be made public because if the cure would put millions of researchers out of jobs and health care workers who specialize in this treatment would be out of work .You mean well but look at the whole picture smoking is a gross habit me for one I smoke and I think it sucks.

tobacco industries with large amounts of money

with which they could use to file lawsuits

Obviously there are a lot of viable answers here.

If you feel strongly about it, perhaps you should ask your legislators in your state the same question.
