If I could only do one thing, traditionally for Christmas, it would be to send out Christmas cards, I always put a short note in each one, also, kind of a quick recap (quick, not a three page narrative) of the year. you would be surprised how much that means to people that you care about. It is really heartwarming. I picked this habit (tradition) up from one of my grandmas.

Another good thing, would be to give to a needy family, any way you choose, Angel Tree, church/work adoption, whatever, that is a really good feeling!!

Merry Christmas

We dont do it anymore bc I moved out on my own, but for 18 years my mom would get up around 5am christmas morning and make me breakfast or hot chocolate. We'd eat then sit by Christmas tree opening presents just by the lights on the tree. I loved it and I looked forward to it every year. Another tradition my family would do is for Christmas dinner everyone makes their specialty and we'd vote on which food was the best (it changed every year) It saves time for cooking and its creative and fun.

In my family,we set up a creche, or manger scene. We use plaster figures that we've collected since I was knee-high to a toadstool, but versions are still available in catalogs and even dollar stores. We put the creche at one end of the house, and Mary and Joseph at the other, with the Magi scattered through the rest of the house. On 1 December, we start Mary and Joseph on their journey to 'Bethlehem', having them arrive on 24 December. At midnight, we put the baby in the manger. Starting on Christmas Day, we start moving the Magi towards the manger, where they meet up on 6 January, which is Epiphany. The creche stays up until 2 February (Candlemas), when it is replaced with fresh flowers.

Christmas is a zoo.

After opening presents in our jammies and a special pancake breakfast that my husband cooks, we get bundled up and go to the Zoo. It is all decked out in lights, no crowded and a special time for our young family. The kids love it.

I'm going to consider going to church on Christmas eve. I never go to church, but I feel the need for something uplifting, non-shopping related and "good will toward men" oriented.
