I am needing some ideas on things I could use to make a homemade double helix?

I have a couple of coat hangers but I would think that there might be somethng easier to work with I have some beads but is there anything else?

straws, pipe cleaners...

how detailed does it need to be? is it a molecular model?

little jelly beans or something for the atoms, or maybe a gumdrop can represent a base

try marshmallows and some kind of wire
or maybe tin foil

You could also try pipe cleaners, or K'nex.
