There are so many events that have changed the world. Some for the good, others for the worse. Perhaps one of the most profound changes to the world came about with the advent of electricity. Without this, the world would be a far different place. Of course World War two, had a lasting impact on humanity and not all in the negative sense. With wars comes advancement in area's such as medicine, equipment such as the jet engine which allows us to travel more swiftly and to further destinations. Many of the rocket advancements went into the exploration of space and the moon landings. Lastly, change affects people along ages. IE... the dust bowl, the great depression, has had little or no impact on today's younger generation and the cell phone, the computer and many of today's technological break through's have little or no impact on the ageing population. Not to say many elders don't use these advancements.

How about the idea of Colonialism, which was directly responsible for most of the wars of the last century?

Etc.
