male, males are XY's, females are XX's (their chromosomes) the female, therefore, always gives and X, but the male can give either an X or a Y, so that determines the sex of the baby.

the male does. eggs have x chromosomes only, sperm are either x or y so if a y sperm fertilizes the egg it's a boy, if an x then it's a girl
