I'm doing this report (which I'm mostly done with) but nevertheless I thought I'd get some different views on why history class and the work of historians is a relevent subject for today's students to learn.

Thank you for your answers.

those who don't remember the lessons and mistakes of the past are bound to repeat them!!that's the gist of the purpose of historical investigation!!!the more history that we are subjected to the fewer mistakes we should be suseptible to recommitt!!but history seems presently to be proving that wrong!!!caeser's assassins were dealt with in a swift and forthright manner and the assassins of john kennedy now rule our country unimpuned and with catastrophic effects on our national integrity and high moral purpose as a country of laws!!so many of the contributing assassins are pursuing a second generation in government and national prominence!!all to our undying national shame!!we name structures, space ports and governmental libraries after conspirators, assassins, plotters and intriguers who have stolen our country's bounty and squandered it on drug smuggling, personnal and unconscionable profit on the deaths of others and self aggrandisement above the execution of a public trust!!

Unless we understand history then we cannot make sense of why certain things occur today; for instance why there is continual strife in the Middle East, or why the countries such as Iran, Iraq, etc. dislike our invading them. Without the background of what's happened before, then the problems of today and in the future cannot be put in proper context.

It's important to know how things came to be the way they are today. If all we know about the world is what we can see today, it's hard to make decisions about the future.

In ANY business, looking at past performance and analyzing trends is vital to forecasting the future and making predictions. It's not just important for government; it's incredibly important for private industry.

If we don't study history, we are doomed to repeat it. For instance, Hitler made the same blunder as Napoleon when he invaded Russia in the winter. Both Hitler and Napoleon lost in Russia where it was the turning point in respective wars where both men were ultimate losers.

Quite simple..to relook at the mistakes and triumphs of our forefather.. example if we see some one following the same path as say Adolf Hitler, massive genocide etc well we would know the signs...not that we would follow them to do the right thing i.e. the genocide happing in africa.
