Here's an example of my typical conversations with people (older adults and peers alike) concerning my major.

Asker: "Hey what are you majoring in?"

Me: "Oh,--music""

Asker: "Oh--hmmm....Oh.....
.....soo what do you plan on doing with that"

Me: Well maybe I'll teach in addition to occasional performances"

Asker: "...hmmmm...[insert awkward silence]..
....well Good Luck with that.

Now, do you see my picture? If I were to say something like Biology, Chemistry, or even History/Economics, etc. --- then I would get a more "excited" response like "Oh wow!!...that's great..there are soo many opportunities in the field of science, etc....Are you doing research?...etc.

Do what you love. I had the same problem when I was deciding which program to go into: science or literature. I caved to the pressure and went into science, but I wasn't very happy in my science classes and kept taking literature courses on the side. Eventually, I ended up being an English teacher and now I am working on a PhD in literature. No matter how hard I fought it, I just couldn't escape that internal force that was pushing me in a certain direction!

People have this notion that the sciences are intrinsically more valuable than anything in the humanities. But the humanities feed the human soul, they help up understand who we are and our purpose in life. These are worthwhile endeavors and don't let anyone convince you otherwise.

On the other hand, I am glad that I gave the sciences a try. I now know that it wasn't for me and I won't ever regret choosing the less lucrative career path!

Follow your bliss. The pay check is only part of what matters. If you like what you do, then you are a success. If you can make ends meet, then all the better. It is possible to have more than one degree, but how many people can follow their passion.. Major in music, minor in plan B.

Major in music. You must love it if you want ot major in it. Sure, it may not seem noble to some people, but real artists understand the importance of music in our world.

Don't major in something just because of pressure. Nothing would be worse than waking up every morning to a job that you hate, and knowing that you're the one who chose it.

i'm at present doing a working laptop or computer technology degree, and that i've got 2 modules in arithmetic alongside the computing ones. the mathematics you would be able to desire to do isn't too problematical to be honest! there is obviously the fundamentals alongside with binary, hexadecimal, and a small little bit of octal(!), those are for obvious motives because of the fact it incredibly is how a working laptop or computer operates. there is likewise a significant section in differentiation and integration (i would be unable to bear in suggestions what for), there's a significant section, additionally, in information (for networking, the probabilities of a community happening etc.). previously I went to college, I had a B in arithmetic at GCSE, I performed a BTEC national degree in ICT (which taught me little maths), then went to uni and that's the place i'm now (doing my tests contained in the 1st 12 months), i've got at present discovered the mathematics required now, i'm in simple terms being examined on it. My advice: decide for it; the worst that would desire to ensue is after one 12 months (or maybe interior the 1st few weeks of the direction in case you sense you're that undesirable at it), in case you sense you're failing, you may substitute direction (to perhaps a working laptop or computer technology appropriate degree, that may no longer so heavy on the computing and maths section (perhaps business enterprise Computing).

You shouldn't base your career choice on the reaction you get from others. There are lots of things you can do with a music major. As I have said before, I have known dozens (if not hundreds) of music majors, and none of them are homeless.

Good luck!
