I think it's a great idea. I have a cyclone fenced back yard. The back fence is divided between two neighbors' yards. Each have pitbulls. The fence on the right side has another pitbull chained to it.
I can't let my kids in the backyard to play because all three dogs get aggitated and begin to growl and bark. And I'm afraid one day they will jump the fence.

I LOVE animals in general and dogs in particular but there are too many irresponsible idiots that own pitbulls and something has to be done to protect innocent people. Too many innocent people and children are attacked and mauled by these dogs.

If it were my choice...I'd jail and heavily fine those that use or train pitbulls for fighting... and I'd make prospective pitbull owners take a training course and post a security bond. There would be no ban on the dogs. They would be held responsible for the actions of their dogs.

But our society seems to prefer to take the easy way out all the time....and in this case it's easier to ban the dogs than make owners responsible.

It's usually not the fault of the dogs when the dogs bite someone. There are too many "bad-asss wannabees" on the street who think they HAVE to have a pitbull to be a tough guy.

They think its macho to have a pit bull. You'll never see these nitwits with a poodle or a Labrador retriever. After all....you can't intimidate someone with a Chihuahua or a poodle.

It's not the dog it's the owner. Pit bulls can be good pets. They can jump up to 9 feet when they are in shape and have very strong jaws.

My neighbors got one. At first I didn't like it because I have a dachshund but it turned out great. Very mellow and non-offensive so far.

I knew this guy that had one. He would snarl at him and tease him thinking it was gonna make the dog tougher. Then one day he did it and the dog attacked him. I thought it was poetic...

I think that if idiots would quit treating them badly and stop fighting them then the rest of the people out there may get the chance to see what a wonderful pet they can be. I love pits they are sweet and wonderful dogs, though I do not agree they should be cooped up they are active and need to have good exercise and proper attention.

The dog breed is one of the meanest out there. They can't help themselves but attack. I've seen grandmas in the news getting eaten alive by their own pitbulls, children murdered by this animal, and innocent people bitten like a piece of steak. This new rule truly serves the people.

I think that it's a shame it's come to that, there are tons of perfectly wonderful pits out there, but I am overall supportive of it. There are JUST too many idiot dog owners out there to have those kinds of dogs.
I think instead of having dog-breed bans, you should have to get a license to OWN dogs in the first place, and take advanced training to be able to have dogs of a violent or powerful disposition!

...a pitbull ban is ridiculous. pitbulls are not vicious dogs, many just have imcompetant owners who do not know how to raise and control them. if anything, people who want pitbulls should simply get a special dog license that requires them to learn about how to care for and train these dogs.

The problem is with the dogs, not the owners. There are thousands of cases of family pets which have mauled or killed children and adults. Leaving your child with a pit bull is like leaving him with a pink gun. It looks nice and sweet and harmless, but it's still a gun.

Pit bulls will snap without warning. Past temperament is not a guarantee of future behavior.

I think its wrong, because people should be able to have any Pet they want as long as they take care of it. But then again I don't want to me walking with my 3 or 4 year old and some one leave their pit bull out or it breaks his or her leash and attacks me or my child.
