as nobody seems to actually be answering your question: You can not get the really effective birth control methods without a prescription. The only over-the-counter methods you can try are: Condoms, Spermicides (in the form of foams or gels), and *I think* you can get The Sponge. Of these methods condoms are the most effective but far from 100%. The best way is to use a combination of Natural Planning (knowing your cycle, and therefore, knowing when you are most fertile and avoiding sex on those days), condoms AND spermicide all together. Condoms are the most effective but absolutely not fool-proof. Often sperm can make it's way into the pre-ejaculation fluid that leaks from a man's penis, so if you have intercourse before putting the condom on you can still get pregnant even if he doesn't ejaculate. There's always the chance the condom can break also (and it's far more common than you think!).

If you are just embarassed about getting a prescription, don't be. There are all kinds of places you can go that are discreet, like Planned Parenthood and free clinics. Nobody has to know you went and it may seem scary but nobody there is going to think anything of it, that's their job and they see a lot of young men and women every day.

Well if your about 15 or 16 you should go to the doctor regardless because you haven't started yet. There might be something wrong and you should get checked out. I'm not trying to be your parent or anything, but if you are below 15 then you should not be having sex or wanting to get on birth control!! Well regardless of your age you shouldnt be having sex anyway!! Now for the birth control, you might want to check Planned Parenthood. They might have some for you. It is best however to talk to your doctor first! They won't tell your parents because of the doctor/patient confidentiality.

you have the obvious male and female condoms. You have the VCF contraceptive pill, it's a thin, small, clear, flexible square that you insert and it dissolves. I don't know if they still make these, but they are called todays sponge. If you have regular menstral cycles, you can research "the rythym method". You have spermicidal foams, creams, supossitories and jellies. To be honest. the best form of contraception, that doesn't invovle taking pills, come from a clinician. you can then get the patches, injection, insertable rings and so forth. Good luck

if you are single - ABSTINENCE - it's free and you don't need a prescription
if you are married - I'm afraid only the pill would be most effective - or condoms - but none are 100%. There is still a small risk of pregnancy or STD's.

Just be aware that every decision you make concerning your sexual health carries consequences, not the least of which are psychological.

My wife used the Nuva Ring and it worked well for us. She enjoyed it better as well.

Bull crap that condoms are not safe. There is a 0.01 percent chance of them ripping. Those are friggin' good odds. One of school's big problems is scaring people away from using condoms because they aren't safe. Its waaaay better than getting pregnant at the wrong time, or contracting an STD.

If you insist on having sex, then always use a condom. It's always recommended even when you are on the pill. It can reduce your chance of getting stds, however, do not confuse the fact that you are still at risk even when using condoms.
