How about a wallet? Scarf and Gloves? Pajama Pants? Slippers? Basket of Fruit? Cologne? Wash Cloth and Bath Towel in a manly color like Navy or Grey? Flashlight? Multipurpose Tool? Pocket Knife? Walnuts and a nut cracker?

You could put together a little basket of your own depending on the price you want to spend with things such as:
aftershave
toothpaste
toothbrush
floss
mouthwash
soap
washcloth
deoderant
batteries
small flashlight
Deck of Playing Cards
Walnuts
Candy Bars or Granola Bars
Sharpie Marker
Small Notebook
Tylenol or Advil
Rolaids or Tums
Gum or Mints
Hand Lotion
Band Aids

Hope this helps! I am sure you'll find something they'll like!

First, let me say that I am really sorry to hear you are in debt in your early teens. Sweetie, it's a terrible place to be. Do what you can to get out of it. Do you have enough thread to make a braided friendship bracelet? If so, you could then make a really neat card with your other supplies and tack the bracelet inside. Another idea would be a cookie mix (minus the wet ingredients). You could assemble all the dry ingredients in a pretty jar and write out the instructions for adding liquids. Do you have anything that was given to you, that still looks new and un-used, that you could regift for this exchange? Is there anything that you could do for your secret Santa partner? A gift of your time? If so, then you could use your craft supplies to make a lovely card and put in a few hours of your time on a pretty slip in card. I have to much craft stuff! If you lived hearby I would be glad to give you some of it. Can your Mom help you with this at all? What is your deadline? I am new to Yahoo! Answers so do not know if you can email me off the group, but if you can, and I have something you can use, I would be most happy to share. I do have a cute set of three pencils with pewter tops (birdhouse, watering can and flower pot) packed with an eraser and a sharpener. I also have three pair of pretty chandelier pierced earrings that you could have, if you can contact me by email. Do you have another non-school friend who could come to your rescue?

Since you don't know them they won't be expecting anything at all. Anything will be a surprise. Food gifts are always appropriate. Tins of cookies, fudge, muffins, thermal coffee mugs with coffee or hot chocolate and/or candycheese and crackers, things like that. I've been in the same situation a time or two and people are always grateful for being thought of, regardless of the gift.

maybe a little care package of things they can use on the boat like some candy, games, cards, books (like guiness type books or Life magazine books)

or maybe a portable CD player? They sell at walmart for under $20

or maybe something significant from your state...like a hat or something
