My strip always goes bad and I wonder what am I doing wrong?

exposure to heat or by laying it down on the magnetic pad at the register which can neutralize the strip.

Any contact with a magnetic source will destroy the strips function, even refrigerator magnets. I had a room mate who thought it was funny to wipe out 2 of my credit cards that way. Bottom line keep away from magnets or from scratching the strip ;)

if you put it near another magnet or scratch up the strip it may not read, try keeping it in a wallet and don't take it out unless you need it, so that there are less chances of it getting damaged

Getting it close to a magnet.

Lettiting it touch another card with a magnetic strip.

Getting it wet.

Getting it dirty.

General wear an tear.
