Both Prague and Budapest are supposed to be beautiful and fascinating cities. However, I do not know which I should visit first. Where do you reccomend?

I was living in Budapest for four months, it is a really beautiful city, however, I found Prague to be a lot more beautiful as well as the people, very attractive and friendly. Hungarians aren't very warm and a lot of the communist decay still shows in the architecture, but they are actively working on that now.
Also, Prague has a SLAMMIN' nightlife! The Roxy was the best club I've ever been to in my life, if you're into the nightscene. The city is so amazing you will feel surreal the whole time you are there. Everything is so clean and fresh too, the public transportation is fast and efficient (in Budapest it's old, rickety, loud, and slow).
You can also try both, there is a direct train that leaves from Nyugati Station in Budapest to Prague, I think I paid about $80US round trip. Plan at least a month in advance, though, when traveling by train for best prices. Try this site: http://www.alleuroperail.com/p2p_lists.php

Also, more people speak English in Prague, much harder to communicate with people in Budapest. The food in Hungary is much better, though, I still crave the food I ate there! If you do choose Budapest private message me and I'll let you in on some great local restaurants.

PS Take a look at some pix I took while at both cities: http://dons.usfca.edu/tswierzbicki/

I'm going to vote for Budapest. We visited there this summer, and also considered whether we should go to Prague. And it's true, as others have said - you should definitely visit both - but they're very different. I say visit Budapest because it is older, it's not as cosmopolitan as Prague, and you don't have to travel far out of the city to experience the country life of Hungary. There is a lot of interesting history and architecture in Budapest - the bridges are beautiful. Sure, the transportation's a little older and it's a working city, not a nightlife hotspot, but it's just a wonderful place with tons of stuff to do.

Prague. Shopping is first rate, the restaurants are really good and it's the absolute best mix of old world for any escapism you may be looking for, with modern conveniences and a vibrant nightlife (Brits in particular come to party - famed Czech models, the world's best beer, and a live-and-let-be attitude make it a very enjoyable city for this aspect). I've lived in Prague for years and still discovered new parts to the city, and if you're a history buff or love architecture, the city and it's surroundings are among the best preserved in all of Europe. Budapest is great, but she's not the jewel that Prague is. Call me biased.

Prague is one of many cities worth-visit and to achieve that you can start planning your vacation with hotelbye . Starting with the charming place around the Prague Castle or the Strahov monastery with its outstanding library and end with …the entire great town, Prague is merely incredible. In Prague you can also visit the little house where Franz Kafka worked or the wonderful Prague Castle gardens from where you could like a special see of the city with its picturesque red roofs. In this town you'll never get bored. If you will go during the spring you will discover the spring trees in bloom; in summer time you will see long dusks; autumn provides you with vibrant leaves and specific light and in the winter you will love the whole city included with innocent white snow.

Budapest is often explained while the "Little Paris of Middle Europe" and if you want to see that town you need to take a peek with hotelbye . Budapest is famous not only for the monuments highlighting a unique 1,000-year-old tradition, but in addition for the relics of others who settled here. Stays from equally Roman occupation and much later ruled by the Turks can however be viewed in the city. Budapest has two sides, Buda and Pest, stretching across the banks of the Danube, and they're addressing two various characters of the city. Suburban Buda and their historical fortress district offer old streets and houses, museums, caves and Roman ruins. The vibrant Pest side offers the largest parliament building in Europe, riverside promenades, flea markets, bookstores, antique shops and café houses.
