Because the car has high mileage and is older, you need to take into consideration that it can and will breakdown and require repairs. American cars are the cheapest to repair, followed by Japanese, and then European. Therefore, I suggest buying an American car such as a Cadillac, Buick, Lincoln, or Mercury. However, if the choice is between Mercedes and Toyota - go with the Toyota.

Go with the Mercedes 136k is low miles for a mercedes. I have had two of them i just sold an 1986 that had 296k on it for 2300. i also have a 89 that has 151k. I would never say toyota is a bad car but the MB will last!!
That said on the rare occastion that the MB does break or need a repair if you cannot do it yourself you better be able to afford the labor cost. Parts are also more expensive but parts that are real expensive tend not to break often.
This is how i'd judge it if u plan to keep th ecar for years buy the benz if u plan on upgrading in a couple years u might want to lean toward the toyota or maybe a Honda or Subaru.

If you want style, go with the Benz. 136k isn't a lot of miles if it's been cared for properly. If you want reliability, go with the Toyota. A Benz might run longer, but will spend a lot more time in the shop...

Generally Benzes tend to last longer. They've got a more solid build. The only drawback is that repairs and parts can be costly. A Toyota is more practical and easier to live with. But a Toyota built in 1993 may be a little too old. I suggest you buy a newer Toyota.

Well, it depends in what model 93' your looking at. For 4000 it sounds like u maybe looking at a 300E or something like that. Those tend to be good running cars. 136,000 isnt to bad. You may want to get it inspected to make sure there isnt anything serious wrong with it. Make sure you take it to a MB shop and not some back alley garage who dont kno anything about mercedes. As far as toyota goes, there crap cars. I think you will be fairly disappointed in their reliability. I would go with the mercedes. I also see everybody to tell you to look at consumer report. Thats crap they dont kno anything. They basically test drive a car when it first comes out.+

If the MB is in good condition it will last forever. I have three a '92, ' 99 and an '05. They all run great and are the best cars I've ever owned BUT, when you go to fix them be ready to to dip into your retirement account, especially at the dealer. Try and buy a newer one than an older one.

Toyotas are more dependable than a benz, you can verify me at JD power or at consumer reports. And you can problably buy a newer toyota for 4k. perhaps a 96-98. Mercedes have a reputation for breaking. Good luck.

i own a repair shop, and on this one you would be better off with a good Toyota,,when the Benz,s get a few miles on them they do give problems,,usually transmission problems,,and it cost around 3 grand to repair a transmission in one of those,i bought one at a sale once,,for 2 grand,,and it cost me 2 grand to repair it,,so you might be better off passing on this one there nice cars ,but parts are real expensive for them,,i work on them all the time, and a simple repair can turn out to be a night mare on them but id pass on that one,,good luck,i hope this help,s.,,have a good x-mas.
