I believe they would get paid because although they have lost the case they still did their job and fought for their client. the client getting sent to jail is just the end result.

Most lawyers ask for a retainer fee and expenses to be paid before court. In other cases, lawyers work pro bono, which means they are doing charity work and will not be paid. (They offer their services for free and from the get-go, they do not expect to be paid.)

either the client's family pays the legal fees, or the client has entrusted someone with his/her estate to pay all the legal fees. in cases where defendants cannot afford a lawyer, one is provided to them by the state, and the state pays for the lawyers' salary.

Public defenders get paid by the government. Private attorneys usually like to get paid up front in case of situations such as you describe.

The lawyer gets paid up front, or he won't settle the case. They will ask for continuances for whatever reason until they are paid, then they will give you up.

an average client..

wouldn't have a lawyer that would put him to prison.

that would be a court appointed , & we the people would be footin' that bill thru our local, state taxes..
