My friends church is starting a new ministry to evangelize to gay people. (It is sort of like an intensive 12 step program)

Question for you

Do you think it is possible for someone to "recover" from being gay?

(I am not trying to be offensive, but I am just curious about your thoughts)

I don't think so. People can lie about it to others and to themselves, but that's no more than a great way to set yourself up for severe psychological problems.

Being gay isn't a disease; it isn't something to "recover" from.

I think it might be possible for a gay people to turn straight, but it is highly unlikely. I don't understand why men are gay though because a woman can have every thing a man has and more. If a guy wants a penis the woman can wear a dildo.

No I dont think that anyone can "recover" from being gay. To start with you cant "recover" from homosexualty b/c it isnt a disease. Also churches everywhere get into thier congregations heads and convince them that homosexualty is bad. And even though in the bible God says homosexuality is a sin, it also says in that same bible that God made each and everyone of us the one that we are. Im not bashing churches either b/c I am a southern baptist myself, but I do hate that churches are hypocritical, and judgemental.

I don't think so. It's like asking a straight person to be gay. If a person is straight, no 12 step program is going to change that person or make them gay.

Just ask yourself. Can you be turned gay? If it was that easy, I believe that ALOT of people would have done so already. Do you honestly think that we choose to be discriminated against? That we love to hurt the people closest to us? That we just love s*cking dick so much that we will bet our lives over it? Seriously people need to open their eyes and embrace the reality. Stop messing with people's lives, live and let live.

It is very easy to stand out side and say, "Don't do this?" "Be straight?" But if you are not gay then you have no idea what it feels like to be gay. So you can not say that "yes people can change." They shouldn't have to change.

It doesn't work, I've tried. People are who they are. I lived in a very conservative and creepy community where people tried to brainwash my desiries and they tried to get me to change. It just doesn't work. Everytime I see a cute guy I do a wild-take, I can't help it.

Or how about the reverse question. Can straight men turn gay? Not bloody likely. Everybody is just wired differently...and there are too many factors/variables. Also, sexuality is fluid and not rigid... so any 'change' would only be behaviorally. They'd just be living a lie.

No I don't think it's possible...or else every gay person in existence would have given anything at one time to avoid being gay.....I think it might allow some people to pretend that they are straight..there's a lot of that out there.

people can be so thick, its not like being gay is a disease like alcoholism or drug addiction! being gay doesn't mean somethings wrong with u, its just the way ur brain is programmed, i dont understand why people can just accept others, if you have a problem with homosexuality, then fine, dont be gay, but its not like some random guy you don't even kno being gay is hurting you ( it goes the same way for girls)

Im sure it's possible. But I feel that really offensive. It feels like that class or program is saying to me:

"Greg, everything will be O.K. In a few weeks you will be better and straight again!"

Its like saying somethings wrong when everything is right.

No, there simply isn't any need for programs like that. There is nothing wrong with being gay and evidence has proven programs like the one you suggest have been proven to NOT work....
