If its a cheapo, a few years with decent maintenance. A name brand like Deere, Toro, Lawn- Boy, etc, I would guess 10-15 years with good maintenance. Now my question is- how much grass are you mowing (postage-size yard or 1/2 acre or more)? What type of terrain is it (rough, bumpy, smooth, flat)? Do you perform regular maintenance on it (change oil a few times a year/sharpen blades/change the plug/filters/etc)? The more you take care of it, it should last even longer.
Good Luck!!

We have a Gravely, has a 4HP Briggs engine. Gave it routine maintenance, and rebuilt the carburetor once for $8. Still runs fine, even though we bought it in 1981.

We had one that lasted about 10 years. The last several years, we did not have the oil changed since the housing was deteriorating and we figured that we would eventually have to get rid of it.

Until it runs out of gas. Or you run out of grass.
More than 10 years if properly maintained.
