Cows as they are today were hybridized through selective breeding over 1000s of years. If you were tasty, you got to make babies. If you were not tasty, you did not get to make babies. I'm going to go with "yes."

I'm a vegetarian, by the way, if that makes a difference...

Of course not!!!

Those migh tbe major contributions but there are others.

Cows were once used to cultivate land and still are in some places. They are easier to take care of then tactors because the proce of food isn't $3 a bale and rising(and you don't have to buy a new cow if your old one breaks down, hopefully it had a calf that you can breed). Cows are also considered relgious because of these reasons. Cows' droppings are still used as a mean of fuel in some places in the world.

I would also like to point ou tthat saying that they were put on earth just to provide mil and meat is an understatement. Milk provided us with luxuries such as Ice Cream and cream. The meat is not eaten in some religons because of a cows' grea tcontribution to the community but it is a strong healthy food source.

Just thought you would like to know.

Yes they have a right to a life.
They have a right to a good life.
A long time ago and far away man and cow made a deal. Man agreed to take care of cow. Feed cow all she wanted to eat all her life. Provide shelter and see she always has water. Cow would live a life ease, never having to work. In return cow would give her self so that man could live. This was a great deal, for cow could not grow fields of grass or harvest hay for the winter. Cow would die with out hay for the winter.
If we didn’t eat cows, no one would take care of them and their would be NO cows. So my question to you is why do you want to take away cows life of ease and condemn her to NO life at all?

animals have just as much right to be free and live worthy lives as humans do. Humans torture animals in factory farms and use them for food when meat is not even neccesary for human survival. THe milk humans drink from cows was meant for the calves and if we drink their milk they are killed so we can eat veal. Cows may seem to have no other purpose but if we did not reproduce them so rapidly and ineffiently there would not be near as many cows and they would be just as uncommon as any other tame animal. The only reason there are so many cows relative to other animals is because humans reproduce them so much. It is wrong to torture and murder animals for humans to eat, if you would not treat your own child in this way you have no right to treat another mothers child that way.

PS. I dont think any animals had a say in when humans were deciding on the definition of rights. Animals deserve rights just as well as humans. Humans are so naive and selfish to think that they are better than any other creature on this earth and it astonishes me that so many humans think they have the RIGHT to choose who lives and dies. When death is not necessary, why does it happen?

Another note:
It is our responsibility to take get of nature and our environment and when humans eat meat for their own "needs" they are not taking care of their environment. Humans do not need to eat meat or milk to survive and they shouldn't eat it.

About 80 percent of the farmland and nearly half the water used in the U.S. are used to raise animals for food. And the sewage produced by those animals—thousands of pounds of it—often spills into lakes and streams, contaminating them

What else do cows contribute to the world, other than food for wild predators? No, animals do not have rights. Rights are of two kinds, inalienable and legislated. I know of no examples of cows having inalienable rights, and I know of no legislated rights for cows, except perhaps in Hindu nations.

Cows are part of the natural environment. Human beings have responsibility to take care of the natural environment, including air, water, soil, plants and animals. But none of these elements of the environment have rights of their own. Therefore it is not a violation of their rights when we freely use air, water, plants and animals to meet our needs. It is however a violation of our responsibilities when we waste, polute or wantonly destroy such natural things without just reason.

Of course animals have rights. Granted, I think its OK to eat them (the bible says its fine, we *do* have canine teeth, and animals eat each other) BUT that doesn't mean that its acceptable to subject animals to unneccessary pain, fear, boredom, etc.

Going back to the bible, I think there are a couple lines that might be useful to you. One talks about how animals are here for consumption and as companions (try Genesis). And another one describes how a cruel man abuses his animals while a good man knows the condition of his flocks.

So although I don't disagree with eating meat, I don't approve of how slaughterhouses treat animals like inanimate merchandise.

As for furs and such? There's just no need to wear them these days!

Yes, they should have rights, because just like any other living organism in the world, God created them and even though they aren't at the very top of the food chain, they're still imporant.
