There's a lot of debate about this. I've referenced an article from babycenter.com in regards to this.

Pacifiers are not only soothing for a baby, but there is evidence that they may help in the prevention of SIDS.

Personally, I don't think we could have made it through the first 5 months of my son's life without his "binkie"! I was worried about him never quitting the habit, but he seems to be less and less interested in pacifiers as he gets older.

My advice would be to give your baby a paci if they are in need. Just be sure to clean them frequently and check for any damage to the pacifier at least on a daily basis.

It was good for me!!! Its not harmful to the baby. Just if your breast feeding, make sure the baby learns how to latch on well and that you and him dont struggle when trying to feed. So once you both mastered it, you can introduce the pacifier. That way, you reduce the chances of bottle confusion. The sucking soothes the baby, so it'll help him relax a bit.
When purchasing the pacifier, make sure it has two holes(opennings) on the sides to alow the saliva out. If your babys got teeth, dont dip it in anything like honey or juice as it may cause tooth decay.

pacifiers is not the best thing that you can give your baby however, it helps ease them when they are crying alot. I have a 1mth old son that does not like the pacifier but I keep forcing him too take it. He gets upset, but it helps me out when he keeps crying.. Although he does not suck on it for long...

My daughter was addicted too the pacifier until she reach the age of 2...

They are not good or bad for a BABY. Some babies love to suck and seem to have a real need for it, others are never interested. The big thing is to not let them keep the passie to long. We took it from Maya before she knew she had it (at around 6 months), and she had forgotten about it in a couple of days, then she found a left over when she was about 18 months old and was using it at night, we didn't even know. I went in and woke her one morning and saw it, it was a lot harder to take away then!!

somebody says it's not good for the babies...I'm not sure if it is true but they says it gonna broke baby's front teeth...that's why i did not try to use pacifiers...and besides my babies don't like pacifiers so i discontinue using it...and some other mother's using this to make them fall asleep, but my question is...what if you go to a place abit far from your house and you forgot to bring the pacifier with you...are you gonna buy a new one just to pacify your baby or to make them fall asleep?so,for me pacifiers could never be a help for a baby....

Most babies like the sucking they can get from a pacifier, and it calms them and soothes them. They should be weaned off of them after a couple of months though. They usually give them up on their own. Good luck.

i individually have not got any situation with mothers who use them. My very practically 8 week previous little guy doesnt look to desire one even with the undeniable fact that. He merely mandatory it one nighttime while he replaced into having a tummy soreness. yet sucking is soothing to a infant and if the baby desires to do it then so be it!!! something that's soothing to a infant could be allowed. i think of of it like this... if taking a warm tub in the previous mattress, eating a tumbler of wine, or listening to some gentle music is calming and soothing to an grownup, then we could desire to continually be allowed to do those issues top? properly those issues are trouble-free, common, known issues that folk do... a pacifier isn't any diverse... babies could desire to "wind down" on the top of the day merely like vast people! It helps them turn off each and all of the stimulation from a hectic day! the baby will inform you while he's able to renounce the %.... so till the baby is waiting then enable him have it whether it doesnt take place till 2 or maybe 3... as properly maximum babies eliminates it on their own in the previous they flow to kindergarten.

They aren't harmful, and lately they say that they help prevent against SIDS, because the sucking keeps the baby alert enough to keep breathing.

I know people say that it hurts kids teeth, but I have seen many kids suck their thumb when parents wont give a pacifier...and that is much harder to get rid of.

we use pacifiers to induce the baby's sleep.
or while she's waiting for her milk being prepared.

but as it gets older, it's not necessary. it could even ruin the baby's teeth alignment.
use it on the first months. but as the baby gets older, try to refrain from using it often.
