to be sure i am not trying to offend anyone. if think i'm wrong tell me why i'm wrong and if its true i'll agree with you. It just seems like things like the United ***** College Fund and Miss Black USA don't seem right. If there was a United Caucasion College Fund or Miss White USA there would be an uproar. Can't there be racism against whites? Let there be no confusion what the white population did to other races ecspecially the Afican Americans was atrocious and if possible i would remove that from history, but what is done is done. Whites are sorry for what the did. There still isn't anti-german feelings for what they did to the jews. Generations have passed and they regretted their mistake and moved on. Why can't we be a united America and equality for all. There still is racism existing and both sides are the culprit. I'm trying not to offend anyone and if i have i'm sorry.

There are scholarships available to all types of minorities’ even nationalities
Yes I do think there can be racism against whites and no racisms is right I don’t care what color your skin is, what religions is etc. However it is also a fact that its much easier to be a white person in this country then a minority.

Doug I do wish the world could move on however what you must realize the wounds are still fresh especially when it comes to the black community. It may have been a long time since slavery however it has only been in this generation that there has started to be equal rights for all people and a positive move to the future. There are still people a live who knew was it was like during the 60’s and before that. Had slavery ended and everyone automatically was treated fairly we’d be a lot further then we are now. It does not help when there are so many racist people still around. I honestly belief the next generation will be better; it has already been better for my generation (I’m 23) there are more people who are accepting diversity, becoming more inter-racial, inter-religion relationships. My cousin’s little girl is 6 and her best friends are a little black girl and a little asian girl. To her they arent black , they arent yellow, they are just her friends.

That is a touchy matter, but I know what you are saying. I never want to offend anyone all people are just people to me. When they take it upon themselves to make the seperation between the people I don't like to be blamed for it, and then called racist. A good example is on Save the Last Dance, I loved that movie. The white girl falls in love with that black guy and all of the people have a problem with it, but not once in the movie did the girl do anything to bring that on herself.
I wish everyone could just stop acting this way and get along.

Why does it bother you so much that they have those things? The term "Whites Only" wasn't that long ago, you know...merely a few decades. And if you think that racism is no longer an issue, you're either very naive or you're lying to yourself.

Let me clarify my point....The reason these programs still exist is because racism still exists. Let's face the truth that people do hold prejudices and they do let them influence their decisions. Programs like these are in place to level the playing field a bit. If there were a way to erase racism and we'd have true equality for all, I'd definitely be for that! But it's just a dream, I'm afraid. All we can do is try our hardest to be fair to everyone and base our opinions on their merits....not their heritage or skin color.

It seems a little controlling of white people to not let black people have their own cultural institutions. Do you complain about Jewish or Ukrainian organizations? I think black people get irritated when black people are enjoying themselves and celebrating their culture and white people come along and want to break up the party or be let in, crying reverse racism. If you are not a white male with money, you can't go to a country club, but that doesn't bother you. It only bothers white people when black people get something nice for themselves. They just seem jealous and controlling, like this particular ethnic group is not entitled to have their own culture and success. By the way, everything in America that does not specifically spell out which group they belong to is for white people. This is implied and understood. Miss America used to mean Miss White America and Vogue magazine means White Vogue and the show Friends means White Friends. Is it a little clearer now?

It's a mix. It's like African-American or Japanese-American. You are one part one race and one part american, (being american doesn't mean necessarily being a legal citizen of the U.S. If both parents were born in Mexico, then the child is Mexican. A peach tree is still a peach tree whether its' planted in Texas or in China, right?) So to answer your question, when someone says they are Mexican-American, it means they are a mix of both nationalities. One parent is from Mexico and the other parent is American (in most cases, the other parent is Mexican-American as well). A slang, more technical term is chicano. BUT IT ONLY APPLIES TO MEXICANS, not puerto ricans, brazilians, columbians, etc. Just because they speak the same language doesn't mean they're the same country. (Britian isn't called America....)

Hi Doug.
I'm Latin American and I had never experimented racism until my student - exchange in Europe. So, I could easily tell you the answer (without trying to offend anyone): We can understand that not all should be like us, and that "classification of your skin colour" is something TOTALLY SENSELESS. And the most important part, WE CAN LIVE WITH PEOPLE, THAT IS DIFFERENT, THAT HAS A DIFFERENT RELIGION, A DIFFERENT CULTURE, etc. Try to be nice to all people, and all the dark-skin-people (meaning the black, the Indian, and the cross-breeded, who usually are the victims of racism), and you'll see, that someday the withes will "surrender" and endly understand, that there is no colour skin better than other one.
And be proud of your skin colour. I'm cross-breeded and I'm proud of it!

I think this is true. I have made several posts about this, stating that if a white fraternity didn't allow african-americans to join they would scream racism and the frat would be disbanded immediately. There are even scholarships for only african-americans, mexicans, native-americans, and all sorts of other races and religions, but it seems a caucasian, christian is out of luck for finding a scholarship tailored for them.

I do think there needs to be a change, even in the movie 'the animal' one character talks about reverse-racism. As much of a comedy as that was, there is some truth to that statement.

You are wrong because every other school and pageant (and all of your other examples) are for white people. We get all of it already and always have. I understand your point that we are sorry about the horrors that the institution of slavery brought about but if you truly understand this fact then you will not be feeling this way about black people. When you understand what it feels like to be called the 'n' word and to be treated like you are less than someone else on a routine basis, then you can say that it is unfair or not. Every day someone is treated poorly because of their race. Who are you to say that they don't deserve a chance to better themselves (scholarships and pageants)?
