Momentum is building in Congress to support for universal health care for all citizens who need it. Private health care would remain, but millions of people would now have access.

A bill to amend title XVIII of the Social Security Act to include dental care, eye care, hearing aids, physical checkups, and foot care among the items and services for which payment may be made under the supplementary medical insurance program, and to provide safeguards against consumer abuse in the provision of these items and services.

Yes I would. Could we please start taxing the rich again and drop all this "supply-side economics" crap to give the poor some real relief?

NO! The problem with healthcare in the USA is that no one pays for their own health care now. Everyone has their employer, insurance company or the gov't pay it.

The natural market forces have been stripped away. On any other product or service, the first thing we want to know is "How much is this going to cost me?" With health care it's "Do you take my insurance?" We no longer shop for the best deal, and as such the health care industry has no incentive to keep prices under control.

What we need, is for everyone to pay their own costs, up to a certain high deductible price, say $5,000 per family every year, and then have an insurance policy pick up the rest after that in case of catastrophic illness. This would force health care users to actually look at costs, and give incentive to health care providers to lower costs.

Absolutely not. If you want something free, read this. Even this costs you in time and money to participate though. There's no such thing as a free lunch or free medical care. You can point a gun at someone's head and make them feed you and you can point a gun at a doctor's head and make him give you care, but I doubt either one would be done well.

What politician in Washington knows better than you what medical care you need and how much you need it and how much it is worth. The kind of doctor who wouldn't mind working under thoise conditions probably isn't one that either you or I want to have taking care of us.

wow socialism at its finest- oh and health care is not free- we all would be paying a big price- the poor would suffer the most - since of course trhey don't have very much money. the rich would complain but could afford it. Hey at least the poor may not be able to eats after being taxed but at least they will be able to go to a doctor.

I would. Other countries do it. I've heard that you may have a long waiting list to be seen, but that's better than no care at all.
