I would write a comparison of the four simplest atoms:

H - Hydrogen - one proton and one electron
D - deuterium - one proton and one neutron and one electron, which acts chemically like hydrogen
T - tritium - one proton, two neutrons and one electron - a still heavier form of hydrogen
He - helium - two protons, two neutrons, two electrons

These are interesting atoms because of their importance in nuclear fusion.

Well, there are over a hundred elements (not atoms).
Why not pick a radioactive element like uranium or plutonium? Both are important to technology, the space race, nuclear power, and other sciences.
Or choose hydrogen - the simplest element, the most abundant in the universe, the reason that stars shine, and one of the 2 elements in water (necessary to life on earth).

I'd personally recommend carbon- it's cool! It's nifty!

It's the basis of the molecules that drive life on earth, and the element that makes up a diamond and graphite, and buckyballs- which look like tiny soccerballs- very pretty in a report!

If you asked this question in chemistry, I'm sure this would be the most recommended element.

I personally like sodium, because of its violent reaction with water. There are a lot of elements that are interesting. You could do any of the coinage metals (copper, silver, gold) or noble gases (the entire 18th group) and probably come up with an interesting report.

I also just wanted to comment that this should probably be in Chemistry instead of Physics. =P

Hydrogen has the simplest structure--just one proton and one electron.
