I have a journal and no one i know has one (or they dont tell me, i dont tell anyone i have one).. but i think people seem to "grow" out of it.

It has so much interesting stuff, and when i look back on what i have written i go through the same emotions as i did at that time. i love it.

And i have happy pictures in there and all the stuff i love, its like a happy book.

Do any of you have a journal and how does it make you feel when you re-read it??

I kind of have one, and don't write in it often. But I do use Outlook to keep track of my writings and photos. (I also keep backups for WHEN the Hard-drive goes bad.)
I am currently 52 and have kept some notes all my life.

My Grandmother got me started because she kept a Diary / Journal where she would write a full page each day. She wrote in it until she could no longer see at the age of 88.
She passed away at the age of 92. (((I miss you Grandma))), but she still lives in my memory, In our Family Photos, AND in her Journals. :)

Absolutely not. I think it's awesome and something more people should do. I think it'd be a great way to slow down and think about life for a while. I don't have a daily journal but I have a thing that I do every once in a while (once a year or every other year). It came out of a book I read called The On-Purpose Person. You write down all your goals in life and then you have sort of a contest between your goals, which helps you prioritize them and determine which ones truly are the most meaningful to you...and then you strive to make sure you do those things first. It's funny to go back and look at things from a couple years ago to see how priorities have changed. The thing I like the most is when I go back and realize all the goals I've accomplished - and a lot of it just has to do with writing them down and recognizing that that's what I want to devote my time to.

I'm 24 years old and I still keep a journal, writing can be your escape form reality or your way to cope with the day to day dramas of life. Writing down how you feel or about something that happened can help you in so many ways. It can help you look back at a situation and understand it better, it can give you closure or insight about how you really feel about something. A journal can be your best friend because its the only thing that's going to listen to every word you have to say without any feedback or interruptions. I love to look back at all my journals from high school or even from last year and just laugh about all the stupid stuff I did and would have never remembered it I hadn't written it down in my journal. Those are your memories and a way to cherish them and learn from them.

It's not strange at all. I'm 43 and I've been keeping a journal since I was 12 years old. It's a chronicle of your life. Imagine how interesting it will be to go back in 30 or 40 years and re-read it!

I go back and read mine from my teens and 20's and am fascinated at the problems and things I had going on back then, and how I deal with them and the outcome.

Keep journaling... it will help you grow as a person.

Good luck,

Merry Christmas!!

How many peope these days have Blogs? Those are journals - just on the computer. There is nothing wrong with having a journal, if it makes you happy to write one. Why shouldn't we document our lives as they happen? There is absolutely no reason why any person of any age should not have a journal. I have one - and I have a few different blogs too... so I say pick up that pen and write what's in your heart!

I have a journal and I'm 30+ years old! I love it! Sometimes I write in it when I'm frustrated and it feels just as good as talking to someone. When I'm excited about something I'll write it down to preserve the memory. When I re-read the entries sometimes I think "how could I have been angry over THAT?" Or "oh my gosh, I totally forgot that ever happened!" Sometimes a journal is as good as a therapist, and a lot cheaper!

it's not unusual to have a journal for your entire life. People now a days don't necessarily keep journals like they did 100 years ago. But it is common to find journals from people for their entire lives.

Keep up with the tradition, it's part of history your children will be able to look at for many years and understand who you were.

I've been keeping one for over 30 yrs...I reread them about every 5 yrs or so, and I learned 2 things; The bad things are my own fault because I choose the same situations, and I learned that I am still the same old girl I used to be(in a good way)
My diary from the age of 8 reads alot like the one at 40.
and you know what? I like myself.

It is not strange for a person to have a journal. Most, if not all writers keep one. I write up notes on dogs I am working with and papers I hope to publish, though a lot of that is professional, not personal. Have one and re-read it if you want. If you become a famous person, then your biographer will have ready material to hand,

PS That Rudolf nose is strange, though.

Keeping a journal as an adult isn't a bad thing to do at all. Many therapists and psychiatrists tell their clients to keep one. It sometimes helps to go back and look to see if something you did was inappropriate or to solve a problem.
