Subaru's Horizontally-Opposed boxer 4-cylinder engine has been one of the most successful and reliable engines on the market, your H6 is a newer design, but basically the same time-proven engine, although with 50% more cylinders this time around. An 03 with 63k is probably a lot of highway miles, so no worries there.. Premium Fuel must be used if the manufacturer specifies, but unless the H6 has much higher compression than the H4, good old regular fuel will do.

The H-6 is a good Subaru engine. It recommends premium fuel but you can put regular in. Alternate between the 2 and see which gives you better fuel economy. Use 5w30 oil and keep it maintained and it will last. Have the plugs checked every 48k this will help the threading on the plugs so as they are easy to take out when replacing.

So far I have seen no engine problems with the h6.they have been very reliable and seem to not be prone to oil leaks and such like the 4 cylinder 2.5L.The plugsare platinum so no need to change till 100k and there is no timing belt.Havent done any transmission work to them either. They tend to be alittle bit harder on the front brakes. All in all they are great cars and that is why I have my wife and 5 year old daughter are in one. yes premium is reccomended.

Personally. When I first got mine, I spoiled it with PREMIUM gas that now if I give it any other than premium, it will not perform as good....Premium gives my car power boost, so that everyday I feel Performance through every part of it !!!...lol hope you can catch what I mean///*wink*///(*you should also try a WRX*)
