One of the heros of the American Revolution, John Stark, said it all, "Live free or die! Death is not the worst of evils."

Americans could give up every civil liberty known to man, and we would still be susceptible to an attack by someone. Nothing in this world is "foolproof." If someone wants to do harm they can and will. We can make it difficult by putting laws and checkpoints, but then we start to become paranoid and everything that the terrorists are afraid of to begin with starts to disintegrate. The best way to hurt the terrorists is for Americans and free people around the world to continue to live their daily lives. The governments have what they need already in place to combat any terror threat. What they lack are not laws and control, but rather motivation to enforce the and defend the laws we have now.

nope, I'm still in denial about the whole "they're going to kill us" paranoia. I think it's too similar to what we've seen during the ColdWar.

Sacrificing civil liberties for the sake of national security is the first step to George Orwell's 1984.

Exactly which civil liberties have you sacrificed?

At last check the constitution was still the basis for how we are governed. Don't fall for all the leading stories in the news. What goes for news these days contains a lot of social engineering.

I am not content to sacrifice my civil liberties for any reason. National security can be well implemented without restricting freedom.

I'm not sacrificing my civil liberties. What liberties have you sacrificed other than the right to talk to foreign terrorists without anyone listening in?

without civil liberties there can be no security...no nation can be secure if it is not free. a gilded cage on a high stand, far away from any potential predators, is still a cage-and those living inside are still prisoners

Name a civil liberty that has been sacrificed for the sake of national security. Please be specific as to how it applies to the entire population.... not a sub set of people.

during a time of war- one must.Only in the time of war-it is one sacrifice that must be made- it was done during the civil war- it was done during WWII and the cold war. Now we are afraid to sacrifice. We keep giving the terrorists equal rights with ourselves they will always have the upper hand.
