1. 5x + 25

In any factoring problem, first look for factors common to all the terms - here the common factor is 5

5(x + 5)

2. x^2 +4x-21

The factors will be of the form (x + a)(x + b) - multiplied out you have

x^2 + ax + bx + ab

So you ask yourself, what two numbers multiplied together (ab) give me - 21 and when added together (a + b) give me 4?

(x + 7)(x - 3)

3. 9x^2-16

This is the difference of two squares - the general form is

a^2 - b^2

This can be written as

a^2 + 0ab - b^2

What two numbers multiplied together give - 1 and added together give 0?

a^2 + 0ab - b^2 = (a + b)(a - b)

9x^2 - 16 = (3x + 4)(3x - 4)

4. 25x^2-20x+4

Factors will be of the form (ax + b)(cx + d)

Choices for a & c are 1 & 25, 5 & 5 and choices for b & d are 1 & 4, 2 & 2

By trial and error (5x - 2)(5x - 2)

See also the lesson at the link below

5. 2x^2-2xy-3x+3y

This can be factored by grouping - factor 2x from the left two terms and - 3 from the right two terms

2x(x - y) - 3(x - y)
(2x - 3)(x - y)

Be careful with signs

Here are the first three:

1. 5x + 25 = 5(x + 5)

2. x^2 + 4x - 21 = (x + 7)(x - 3)

3. 9x^2-16 = (3x + 4)(3x - 4)

You should try the rest yourself.

Just take your time and work your way through it. I try to find common denominators between the three numbers and go from there.

1. x+5
2. (x+7)(x-3)
3. Prime

That is all I will help with but what you want to do is find out if the equation can be broken down to a simpler form. I hope the first three help.
