The Civil War ended the Southern way of life that depended on slave labor in the cotton and tobacco fields. It settled the question of whether a state could secede. And it finally cemented the Union of the states. It was the first modern war that introduced methods of warfare seldom used before. The North used its superior strength to destroy the economic and industrial basis of the Confederacy.

well before the war started the south should have thought about their own assets before breaking the tie witht the north. yeah they were fairly wealthy but most everything the produced was a raw material. especially cotton, the textial mills were either in the north or in england. they thought that england would side with them so they would have a cash flow to fund their new "country." but england did not supporet the south and the south couldnt sell their main cash crop. this devistated not only the confederate nation but also the war effort. to top off this devistation, the war was also very distuctive in many ways. first and main one was the loss of life. after the war their werent enough men/people to get a delapotated and wound economy off the ground. during the war, homes, businesses and platations were destroyed. so there was a lot of work to be down with noworkers to do it and no money to finance it. that is why the were what is known as "carpetbaggers." the were northerners that wen to the south and started their own businesses, taking advantage of the southern economic crisis.

hope that helped alittle

short answer: The North became industrialized with techniques from the warfare. The South had more advantageous commodities, although the North had more advantageous business potential. many of the guns and muskets used with techniques from the South were synthetic interior the North. If it wasn't for Lee, the warfare ought to were over in lower than a 365 days - regardless of the inept administration of the Union military. in case you opt for a good e book reference on the Civil warfare, you could not gey ANY more advantageous suited than Bruce Catton's military of the Potomac trilogy.

well, it obviously destroyed it
during the war the farms were all burnt down, and the enmity between the North and South made sure that no Southern politician would be elected president for years
also, the slave system was gone, and the plantations and slave owners suffered.
more disrupting was the black's freedom and state of equality among the whites
