Been playing an american tele for years. love it, but love the design of the firebird and the sound of a gibson. can't find a firebird in a store to try out, so i was planning on getting a semi-hollow tele. Should i hold out for the gibson or say screw it.

I like the neck width on the tele and the bright tone. Perfect for the dirty rock 'n' roll i play. Use a blues driver through a '70's twin. I know the firebird will be heavier. I can live with that.

They are definitely two different guitars. The Gibson, due to the humbuckers, has a much beefier sound. I like Gibson and Fender for their different qualities. I have a Strat and a Les Paul.

In comparison, the firebird will probably have a fuller, but less bright tone. The necks are also a bit thicker, which may take a little getting used to, but Gibson does make an excellent guitar.

You should probably keep playing the guitar you've been playing for years, you know it, and it knows you. It really doesn't matter what guitar you are playing, if you 'sound like you', you will sound that way on any guitar, whatever it looks like, and whether it cost $15 or $15,000.

If you care what other people think when they look at what you are playing, you are playing to the wrong people; you should play to the ones who are listening, not the ones who are looking!

P.S. DON'T get rid of/sell the Tele, even if you buy something else. If you really have been "playing it for years" you'll soon miss it, and regret letting it go!
