In addition, the sum can only have a number of decimal places equal to the least number of decimal places of the numbers added.
so
24 + 0.012 = 24.012
but since 24 had zero decimal places, you must round your answer to zero decimal places. So the answer becomes 24, just as if you added nothing.

You add two numbers in chemistry just like you add two numbers in math.

24 + 0.012 = 24.012
