First you need to pick a version of linux to use. If you've never used it before and I assume you haven't as you're asking how to install it, I would suggest you use Mandriva Linux (formely known as Mandrake). I'll provide a link to it below. Download the install cds/dvd as you need. Once downloaded burn them onto their appropriate disks and then reboot your computer with the 1st (install) disk in your drive. This part gets a lil tricky. You can either choose to do a dual boot (leaving both your current Microsoft OS (Operating System) on as well as linux so you get to choose which OS you boot to) or you can do a clean install. This would be dependant on your HD (Hard Drive) size and/or how much free HD space you have. As Linux uses a different file format then your current OS it will need to most likely redo your HD. I would suggest you do a clean install. If you need to install Windows for a dual boot you can do so later. After you select a clean boot its pretty simple. Just click next and answer the appropriate questions properly. The only trouble you should get into is deciding which version (Workstation/Server/etc) you need. This unfortunately I can't help you with as it will depend solely on your needs of linux. Most users (if you're just experimenting with linux) should suffice with a Workstation install, but you're free to choose whichever you need. The install itself is pretty simple and straight forward much like any Windows OS install. Good luck and I hope you enjoy Linux.
