Re-installing will always be a solution when wanting to reverse all changes. It happened to me to and I just re-installed. Back up anything (if you can). If you ca not. Try sending the important documents to your e-mail box.

First, look at your hardware. Control Panel, System, Hardware, Device Manager. Remove and reinstall any devices where the icons are yellow or red. While there, check the CD ROM and the IDE controller for conflicts. If your CD ROM was previously the D drive and the Virtual Drive was installed as D, neither one will work correctly. Write down what you see.
Next, perform a system restore to a time that preceded your virtual drive installation. Start, Run, Restore, double click RSTRUI and pick the latest pre-virtual drive running configuration.
Reboot your machine. Look at your hardware again. Your CD ROM should be working and you should be able to track the configuration changes made.

The driver has probably been corrupted. Go to the manufacturers site and try downloading a new one. Or if you have installed new software such as Roxio there could be a conflict, try installing and see if the resolves the problem
