Affirmative action does not only affect minorty races, it also allows women, the disabled, veterans, and any other minority class to have a chance a job, place, government contract, etc.

We all KNOW how women get paid 76 cents per every man's dollar. If there was NO affirmative action, women wouldn't even be CEO of their companies and would have to sleep their way to the top. I don't want to go back in a era like that! IT"S BEEN PROVEN THAT WOMEN GET PAID LESS THAN MEN!

let's be real, people discriminate against disabled people or people with no limbs. We need AA to give these people a chance.

I have no idea why people would think Affirmative Action only applies to minorites! I live in South Africa and here Affirmative Action applies only to majorities. It seems like no matter where you go healthy white males always get the short end of the stick when it comes to affirmative action.

Women get paid less then men for many reasons, most of which deals with the fact that women are on average more willing to work less paying jobs, more so then men. Affirmative Action is nothing more than reverse discrimination, no a person should not be denied a job because of their race, gender, ethnicity, or a disability, but they should not be chosen over a more qualified individual of the majority just because they are a member of a minority ethnicity.

When they say affirmative action is for minorities, women are considered a minority because the men are in control, both politically, and socially

But it can be an advantage because some people get passed up for jobs because of their skin and not the skills they possess. If a white male has a C average and a black man has a B+, and an asian man has an A-, who will get the job first if it is a majority white company? The white male, only because he fits into the demographic @ the job.

Actually, women do not fall in minority based on numbers. They were not given a fair shake. They are today.
The problem with government interference/intervention is that once the problem is solved nothing is done about the out-dated laws. This is one that has out lived it's usefulness.
The truth of the mater is that women, and other 'minorities', were token employees for many years after affirmative action, and it made things worse. Eventually, it was realized that minority persons were just as able as men.
Now we are resented because there are laws that give us advantages we no longer need and is actually hurting us.

You sound a little swayed but that's cool.

It does not equally protect minorities. Take the real minorities like people with red hair and green eyes, genetically the ultimate minority. Then comes blounds. Affirmative action does not protect blound people.

Blounds are laughed at paid less and discriminated against with impunity.

Put it to the test right here on YA. For a start blound is not even blocked as a anti word like some other racial terms. You can tell blound jokes on YA try that with another race and Whammo.

Go big Red Go

Many claim that it has unintended and undesirable side-effects and that it fails to achieve its goals. They argue that it can act as a form of discrimination, perpetrate new wrongs to counter old ones, and instill a sense of victimhood in the majority. It may increase racial tension and benefit the more privileged people within minority groups (such as middle to upper class blacks) at the expense of the disenfranchised within majority groups (such as poor whites).
How the media portrays affirmative action and affirmative action cases plays a role in how the public responds to affirmative action. There are claims that the practice is itself racist and/or sexist, depending on how one defines those concepts. Others believe that programs may be motivated by political considerations. Some members of races 'assisted' by affirmative action feel that the program is an insult to them, because they feel that their race is good enough to get jobs without the government's help. Finally critics and supporters disagree on the economic effects of affirmative action.

Affirmative action makes unfair treatment mandatory. People should be hired on the basis of their abilities, not their race, handicap, religion, or any other criteria.

Race-based Affirmative action is racism.

If I told you that I cannot hire you for a job, even though you are the most qualified, because of your race, or because of something else outside of your control, you would be very upset at me, as you should be.

It has done more harm to minorities and the disabled than anything. Because of affirmative action, there is always a huge question mark over any minority or disabled person's life- did they deserve the job, the school, or the accomplishiment they did- or did they get there because of affirmative action?

It is unconsititional, it harms most the people it is intended to help, and should be abolished.

If anything Affirmative Action should only apply to US citizens. Not those in the country illegally.

Not to worry. In another twenty short years, there will be no need for affirmative action. Why?Because the US is becoming more and more diversified. Black men/white women; Black women/white men; white men/Latino women; Latino men/Black women....and on and on and on.
Besides white women benefited most from affirmative action than Blacks, the disabled, veterans.
Ever notice how it's usually the bald-headed, rug wearing, big tummy, OLD men or bleached blond, out of shape OLD women who have so much to say about affirmative action?
Twenty years from now whites will be in the minority.
I'm gad I tan well.
