What did you think of it? Do you think the children were better off after this film?

I do think the children were better off. For one things, they got a lot of attention from a caring adult, from someone who wanted the best for them and who tried to give them a skill and to help bring opportunities to them. Children develop a little more self esteem and an awareness of bigger possibilities when such an adult spends time with them.

The children shared an unusual experience among themselves, which created an ability to bond with others around something outside themselves and the grim conditions of their everyday lives. The photography taught them to look at familiar surroundings with new eyes, and perhaps they will continue to have a certain curiosity about what they see around them.

Even for the children who went back to their slums and became prostitutes, they at least are aware that education is a powerful way to leave behind the way of life they were born into, if they choose to go that direction. If they don't choose it for themselves, they may be motivated to chose it for their children or for other children.

They had a role model of a kind adult who didn't expect anything from them and whose only wish was to help them. That has to be a positive influence on children, even if the forces that keep them in their old way of life are too strong to escape from.

I watched 'Born Into Brothels' a year or so ago. I think it was rather haunting watching these childrens experiences unfold.

I think all of the children are better off after the film. Many of them were able to get into good schools, and although a few of them decided to go back to their moms, I think it was good for them to see what else is out there.
