the choke does not want to disengage even after the car is heated up it usually will disengage after about 30 min of driving the carb is a quadrajet, anyways i was thinking, if i just change the choke pull off then maybe the problem will go away but i just need some reassurance from other people

are you getting heat to the choke coil,if not it wont come off,it should not be taking 30 min.it sounds like the cross over in the manifold is plugged,or the valve in the exhaust manifold is not working or both.if its an electric coil heater then check for power

choke pulloff isnt going to change anything
the choke is still on, its not warming up and opening, the reason its running fast is because the fast idle cam is engaged, it is part of the choke assembly
there were three different designs of the rochester auto choke
yours is most liklely s spring mounted on the intake and connected to the carb choke by a rod, theresa tin cover over the spring so you cant see it without looking inside of it, it pops off,
if it is this type then the spring is probably old and worn out and it is time for a ne wone, borg warner makes new ones, most auto parts stores can get one and these were use from 69 to about 79
or it could be electric choke in which was mainly seen 80 and up
if it is this one then the choke may not be getting power, check for power at the wire with the key on
good luck

Choke pulloff/choke unloader just partially opens choke due to throttle position/engine load. Sounds like your choke coil or linkage is messed up.
You didnt say which type of choke.
Divorced choke has the choke coil in a "choke stove" on the top of the intake manifold. Its a hot air choke. When the intake gets hot, the coil expands and opens the choke via the linkage rods. Very prone to rusting shut.
Electric choke is built into the side of the carb. Its powered by 12 volts whenever the ign key is in the "run" position. The choke coil is grounded to the choke housing on the side of the carb itself. If its not working, its not getting power, or its dirty and not grounded well, or its linkage is not adjusted right. Most Q-jet electric choke coils will only go on one way, so they're not adjustable per se. but the linkage is.
Either setup is prone to poorly adjusted linkages, frozen/rusted parts, adjustment screws messed up, wear, etc.
If you like Q-jets (as I do) get Cliff Ruggles "how to rebuild and modify rochester Q-jets". Its a great book.

The pull off works when you accelerate or are in the gas. The prob you have is either the choke wire is not connected or live, the thermo spring inside is bad or the choke adjustment is off.
once the choke does open the choke pull off has no effect.

The choke pull off is operated by vacuum it could be your pull off or even a leak in your vacume line going tt your pull off and make sure the linkage is not bent

try turning the fast idle screw down a little.also check the vaccum to the pull off and also check to see if the pull off is pulling in when you start your car,if it does then try to bend the rod so it can pull the choke open.
