they outsiders were a bunch of drug users who shot each other and called eacher stupid names like ponnyboy and jonny.
its probably called the outsiders because they feel like they are outsiders to the normal world. The Socky's make them feel like outcasts and hoodlums
hope this helps!

The outsiders are the people who ain't in the gang. They are the outsiders, not the gang itself. The gang members are tight, they all know and love each other. They are the only normal people in the whole story, they know themselves and what is cool. Everyone else, especially the punk rich kids across the tracks are outsiders. Trust me, go with this view and the teacher will give you an A.

The outsiders comes from the meaning of the book.....how the boys were cast out and how they were treated (how everyone looked down to them)....as the outsiders. Its a great book and movie to bad you didn't pay to much attention.

From my recollection the Outsiders were the group of boys called the greasers and I suppose it was called that because one of the main characters, Ponyboy, felt that he was an outsider and did not fit into society. Ponyboy himself states that he identified with Pip from Charles Dickens "Great Expectations".

This book is about teenagers who felt like they were outsiders inside their own families and in the lives of their friends.
If you have not done so I would suggest that you read this book and you will discover the answer to your question.
